Broken Hearted

Broken Hearted – Theresa Reihana

Artist Statement

My name is Theresa Reihana. I am of mixed heritage both Māori and European ancestry. My Iwi or tribe is Ngatihine and Ngāpuhi. I am a mother of 6 and living in the Far North of my homeland New Zealand. I was bought up mainly in South Auckland amongst the color and variety of the multi cultural society that it is. I believe that this has given me the ability to respect the customs and beliefs of others and not to judge with ignorance.

My art has provided me with an avenue to express and share my inner most feelings and thoughts with others. Whānau family, whakapapa genealogy and our native natural surroundings provide an unlimited source of strength and inspiration on my journey of life and learning.

I am grateful to live with the surroundings I have and the people I know and my children will grow and appreciate life through the experience. I believe we all have a responsibility to protect our environment for our children so they might live.
