Herb Foley has been exhibiting landscape paintings throughout New Zealand from 1976. Since leaving Christchurch he has concentrated his art-making on the lush Northland bush, from his home base in Kerikeri.
Art critic T.J. McNamara pointed to the painterly and the philosophical in reviewing earlier work. For those who walk the tracks of our bush this exhibition will be an experience they recognize immediately: it is the truth of experience more powerful than the camera.
Village Arts is thrilled to exhibit this bold, colourful, joyous work. Herb’s concern for the abundance of nature projects through layers of close, tactile foliage, through deep structure, to barely glimpsed magical fragments. He has defined this heightened experience of the New Zealand landscape so that the work is at once familiar and yet startlingly new.

Wild Thang is a two week capsule show of playful work by two of Northland’s finest artists. Anthony Ellison is best known for his illustration and cartoon work for major New Zealand magazines and media, such as New Zealand Listener; Jane Molloy-Wolt is a Kerikeri artist also known for her vibrant art workshops and tutorial events. Both are bold and brave in their approaches, and highly regarded in their fields (Northland pun intended!). Their work is very collectible.
As a prelude to our vibrant summer show, we are thrilled to have this exhibition of a limited number of works. All are framed or on board and will be available to take at the end of the show. Be quick, as there is no formal opening.

Expressing new ways of looking at nature, Nature’s Lens is a powerful exhibition of Heather Randerson’s digital work in Milford Sound, accompanied by new 3D work by Lindsay Antrobus Evans, and new photography by Marg Morrow, reflecting on the theme of the title.
