Dreaming Myself Awake

The two larger oil on paper works together with a series of small framed drawings explore allusive and transformative themes; conveying the relationship between the human condition and an ethereal world.

The Joy of Life – Fabric Collage Drawings

Titled from a painting by Max Ernst, these affirmative works were inspired and pay tribute to selected artists from the Surrealist art movement of the early 19th century.

Big Words Speaker Event

Ecology 2020

Big Words – Speaker Event

Our Ecology 2020 Speaker Event is designed with Hokianga in mind. On the Sunday afternoon that ends the Hokianga Festival For Change we have the privilege to bring you three wonderful individuals who walk the talk.

John Wigglesworth will moderate this exciting conversation.

Change is a given. The Hokianga is a unique area, having history, beauty, and the potential to be a peaceful resource. We strive to acknowledge that and to consider visions beyond just our own. To work out positive change before changes are thrust upon us. To make ways to share generously without becoming what everyone is trying to escape from. This is the work we undertake in companionship with the mahi of others who craft meaningful change in our area; in health, wellbeing, and the environment.

Our three speakers will—in conversation—bring us ideas from their extensive bank of experience. Tony, for example, has written about ideal community structures, and the philosophy of living simply and helping others to do so—‘Sustainability’ was his word. Kennedy helps us see other sorts of being in the environment and appreciation for all sorts of aspects of nature and society through his writing. And Sue engages with change for people and environments as a community activist of many, many years standing.

As we expect large numbers, please respect our speakers by arriving at 1.45 in order to pay and be seated ready for a 2pm start.

Big Words/Bigger Actions

Opening 11am Saturday 8th February

Open 8th February – 8th March 2020

The exhibition Ecology 2020. Big Words/Bigger Actions, opens on Saturday 8 February at 11am and runs through February at Village Arts Gallery, Kohukohu, finishing on March 8.

The exhibition is allied to the Hokianga Festival for Change on the weekend 28th Feb to 01 March. The festival is billed as ‘A community event showcasing a range of multi-media work suggesting how we might change the way we live’. Our own exhibition aims to put the ‘multi’ into the media.

And as well as the festival speakers and performers, we have our own great speaker event on Sunday March 1, so watch our social media for that.

And… if that isn’t exciting enough…

This exhibition is about change. One of the things we can all do is lessen our dependency on our cars. We invite people with bikes (electric or manual) to cycle to the opening. You will be an opportunity at the opening to test drive an electric bike.
